Mid-February Business Check-In: Are Your New Year's Resolutions Still on Track?

Feb 16, 2025

January is all about setting big, ambitious goals. But by mid-February, reality often settles in. Maybe the momentum has slowed, or your original plan isn’t unfolding as expected. That’s completely normal—but it doesn’t mean you should abandon your resolutions. Now is the perfect time for a strategic check-in to assess progress, adjust where needed, and set yourself up for long-term success. Here’s three ways to do it effectively:

1. Assess What’s Working (and What’s Not)

Before making any changes, take an honest look at what’s been successful in the last six weeks. Have you gained more customers, improved engagement, or streamlined your operations? If so - woo hoo!  Celebrate those wins!

On the flip side, pinpoint areas where you’ve struggled. Are you consistently running out of time? Is a marketing strategy not delivering as expected? Identifying these roadblocks helps you make informed adjustments instead of feeling like you’ve “failed” (which you haven’t!).

2. Refine Your Goals and Strategy

Goals aren’t set in stone—they should evolve as you gain insights. If something isn’t working, ask yourself:

  • Do I need a different approach?

  • Am I focusing on the right priorities?

  • Are my expectations realistic given my current resources?

Maybe you aimed to launch a new product line but now realize you need to build a stronger audience first. Or maybe you have the audience but the product you had hoped to launch this spring just isn't there yet in terms of formulation.  Adjusting your timeline or shifting focus isn’t quitting—it’s smart business.

Creating a plan to help you with "struggle areas" from your earlier assessment can take your power back and put you in control.

3. Reignite Your Motivation and Momentum

If the excitement of January has faded, reignite your motivation by reconnecting with your “why.” Why did you set these goals in the first place? Remembering why you launched your company and reminding yourself of the bigger picture can help you push through slumps.

Another tip? Break larger goals into smaller, more manageable tasks. Small wins build confidence and keep you moving forward without feeling overwhelmed. And if you need a boost, find an accountability partner, whether it’s a mentor, a fellow entrepreneur, or even your audience.

New Year’s resolutions don’t succeed just because of the enthusiasm of January; they succeed because of the discipline and adaptability you bring to them year-round. Mid-February is a great time to reassess, refine, and reignite your passion for your goals. So, take a moment, check in with yourself, and make the rest of the year even more impactful.  I know you can do it!
